Recent study reveals that approximately 10% of the Dutch job seekers would prefer to work abroad. Young people and professionals especially have extra interest in working abroad.
Belgium, Germany and England are most popular EU countries with the interviewees. Also the groups of 40+ and self employed people have, because of the great competition in the Netherlands, more interest in working abroad.

Recent research from the European Union has proven that 28% of the interviewees is willing to work abroad in the future. Despite this high percentage, many people face problems when it comes to working abroad. Problems which people prevent from working abroad.
One of the problems is the vagueness with regards to social security. Most of the social security systems differ by country.  Another problem is the recognition of the diplomas. There is not 1 uniform system for diplomas and besides that it’s very difficult to verify diplomas. A third problem point is that companies don’t bid on foreign tenders. The guidelines or unclear and (international) laws discourage participations.

Money and travelling most important reasons for working abroad

Research demonstrates that making lots of money and working for big multinationals are the most important reasons for men to go abroad.
Women on the other hand go abroad because they love travelling so much.
Studying abroad is less popular. Students rather stay at home. Only 6% shows interest in studying abroad. Doing volunteer work is only popular with people who are older than 45 years of age. For people younger than 45 only 15% is interested in doing volunteer work abroad, 32% is interested of the people who are older than 45.
